TURK & MILONE, LLP – LEGAL SEMINAR

A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?

The current and future state of COVID-19 Landlord-Tenant Restrictions

With the anticipated lifting of the COVID-19 State of Emergency on June 15, 2021 and the impending expiration of the CDC Eviction Order, the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel” seems to be approaching.  However, although the end may be near, understanding the current state, local and federal laws affecting an owner’s right to collect rent and enforce the lease remains crucial.  This brief seminar will discuss the various COVID-19 laws and regulations currently affecting residential and commercial landlords, as well as some practical advice on how to continue to ensure the timely payment of rent and overall lease compliance.  The seminar will also review issues which are likely to arise when these laws (hopefully) expire, and practical advice on how to ensure residents pay rent and avoid evictions.  We will also discuss issues relating to the opening of amenities, mask mandates, enforcement issues, and vaccination mandates.

Topics of this seminar will include:

The Federal CARES Act

The CDC Eviction Order

The Massachusetts COVID-19 and Rent Collection laws

The status of Courts in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut

Rent Collection and Lease Enforcement AFTER the age of COVID-19

Adopting, maintaining and enforcing COVID-19 Rules and policies
